Vrij Nederland published an article on Anton and his films, saying LIFE is his best one so far.

LIFE

as the film is ready to get released all over Europe in september and october, it is an exciting but busy time for the actors and myself as we promote this event.

we are starting at the Deauville Film Festival on sept 5th with France being the first country to release the film on sept 8th. herewith the UK film poster which i am very happy with.

RECENT PRESS

i’ve been doing loads of press recently for 2 separate reasons but they seem to morph into one most of the time: my exhibitions (‘1-2-3-4’ and ‘Hollands Deep’) and the new film LIFE. here are a few magazine covers that came out of this turbulent talking period.

MISS DIOR

Anton made what is essentially his first commercial, for Miss Dior with Natalie Portman and the Director’s Cut is now out in the open. you can watch it here

a book for Dior was also released as a limited edition within the Dior world. this here is the book’s cover.

ROLLING STONES exhibition

14 december 14 - 31 january 15

Anton is part of the current Rolling Stones exhibition of photographs at the Taschen Gallery in Beverly Hills, CA. though it is mainly a show of David Bailey’s great images of the band to coincide with the publication of the enormous Taschen 'Rolling Stones' book, there are 2 large images by Anton in the show too.

NEW COVERS

1. my friend CLAUDIA BRÜCKEN (we started working way back in 1983 when she was in Propaganda) released her solo record with this new photograph we took in London in a matter of minutes as i had firmly in mind the image i wanted for her. i worked on the art direction as well (designer was Philip Marshall and Paul Morley is always present in some way or another) and i like to think it worked out very well.

2. BERNARD from Joy Division liked this picture we did in the 80’s in Scotland so much it had to be the cover of his autobiography.

3. SIDNEY VOLLMER i admittedly do not know but he wrote a nice letter wanting to use one of my images on his 2nd print run of his novel and this is the result. rainbow could have been left off (it is the publisher’s logo) and white border could have been left off but i was not in charge and i hope it helps the book to find a new audience as i guess that was the quest.

4. the Dutch artist ARMANDO is not just a very celebrated painter but amongst other things he does is writing short stories. this is a collection of these.

5. cover for my friend the poet/writer BART CHABOT. the book is a compilation of his finest work published at his 60th birthday. the word ‘zestig’ is dutch for SIXTY.

TASCHEN 'ROLLING STONES’ book

there will be a special edition of the rolling stones book that Taschen Publications will release in december. it is an amazing book also without the edition print of this image by ANTON. and probably a lot cheaper too but it is a great idea to combine print and print.

LIFE

This photograph is our first publicity shot from the film LIFE that i am currently shooting in Canada and USA. It is the story of James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock, set in early 1955. In the back of the car sits Jimmy as played by Dane DeHaan and in the passenger seat is Dennis, played by Robert Pattinson. Both guys are fantastic and are giving the film very good energy despite the very harsh winter we encountered in Canada.

it contains the work of an interesting mix of photographers ranging from Araki to Cindy Sherman to Wolfgang Tillmans. Five of Anton's selfportraits are part of the show which lasts till January 5th 2014. The photograph 'a.joplin', as shown here, is part of that series.

Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam - WIT

This exhibition has the Nelson Mandela photograph by Anton in its show. It runs till 14th of January 2014.

JJ Cale

it was sad to hear about the passing of JJ Cale. i loved his music and played "REALLY" and 'NATURALLY" constantly in the 70's.

i visited him at home in the 90's (a cropped photograph of mine was the cover of his "Guitar Man" record in 1996) and he was just a great and humble man.

photography is still a great way to meet people and can carry memories that are partly shared and partly private.

Kunstmuseum Bochum

'Inwards and Onwards'
25 may - 28 july 13

i will have a show with the most recent portrait series called 'inwards and onwards' in this very nice museum where i previously showed in 2001.

the show consists of about 40 images ranging from NELSON MANDELA to BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN to LUCIAN FREUD to KATE MOSS to JOHN LE CARRÉ etcetera.

Depeche Mode - Delta Machine

this is the new cd/vinyl cover for DEPECHE MODE. the background photograph i shot in new york and the cover + logo i designed in hamburg, during the filming of A MOST WANTED MAN.

i wanted the cover to reflect something raw, industrial, independent, and have a graphic vibe to it. this is the 10th album i worked on for DM and the 8th album front-cover that i designed for them, including the BEST OF record.

there will be a special edition cd that has a 28 page booklet which contains many pages of photographs from shoots we did in new york and louisiana.

the record will be released late march 2013.

Petra Rinck Gallerie In Düsseldorf

there is a small exhibition with old work by me at Petra Rinck Gallerie in the ackerstrasse 199 in düsseldorf. the b/w photographs are all from the late 70's to the late 80's. on the photo here we see ian curtis (1980) on the left and john martyn (1978) on the right.

the show is there till feb 23rd and also shows music related work by d'dorf artist RALF BRÖG.

Waits / corbijn '77-'11

after years on and off of putting a book together, on may 8th a large book simply titled WAITS / CORBIJN '77-'11 will see the light of day.

this book contains photographs of tom waits by myself, with, and this is really very special and a first, 50 pages of tom's images and words. it is published in a numbered limited edition of 6600 books. it spans photographs taken over a 35 year period. we didn't see each other every year or even when we did we didn't always take photographs so it doesn't pretend to be anything but a story between two people who worked together now and then over that period of time. that is a very long time and both tom and i are proud of this achievement of sorts, as well as being very proud of the book's content.

G-STAR

G-STAR is the label that i am associated with for over 4 years now so obviously both parties enjoy the collaboration. bar the very first campaign, we shoot these in black/white.

the latest campaign that i shot for them is out there. this time i worked with model ARIZONA MUSE and actor CALEB LAUNDRY JONES in the beautiful cold light of the french alps. herewith some of the images.

S.F. [ART, SCIENCE & FICTION]

anton is part of a group exhibition in belgium, in grand-hornu, running from 18 november 2012 till 17 february 2013.

one of anton's photographs of kraftwerk is the poster and cover of the catalogue. about 35 artists are participating like mike kelley, on kawara, gavin turk just to name a few.

A MOST WANTED MAN

the shooting of my new film A MOST WANTED MAN started a month ago in hamburg, germany. getting incredible performances from the actors amongst which are philip seymour hoffman, rachel mcadams, willem dafoe, nina hoss, grigory dobrygin and daniel brühl.

my DoP is benoit delhomme so it will look strong, poetic and modern. the film is based on john le carré's book of the same title and deals with a possible terrorist threat in hamburg post 9/11. if all goes to plan the movie's release will be in autumn 2013, but expect to find more updates here during this process.

HERBERT GRÖNEMEYER

herbert grönemeyer's new record I WALK is in the english language and contains his best songs in a way they fit together (so not a greatest hits idea) plus 2 new ones, all with english lyrics.

we shot the cover image 2 years ago in portugal for his last record but never used it till now. personally i think this is his best record so far and the contributions by bono and antony hegarthy will make sure that a lot of people who are unfamiliar with him, will pay attention i reckon.

BECK'S

during the summer of 2012 beck's beer in germany and italy continued their artist's beer bottle series that in the past included artists such as damien hirst, gilbert & george, tracey emin etc, with a new series that included myself.

it was a strange encounter the first time i saw myself on a bottle in a bar on a german train. herewith the beer bottles, the poster and the original photograph 'a. curtis' from my 'a.somebody' series that was made into an oval shape.
